Overview of Indian NBA players' careers Where are they now?
Sim Bhullar
Sim Bhullar was the first Indian basketball player to have a place in an NBA team’s roster. He wasn’t drafted by any team in the year 2014 but Sacramento Kings wanted to give this 7-foot-3 giant a chance in the Summer League. He played four games in the Summer League. Kings’ front office wanted to go further and decided to add him to the pre-season roster. However, the team didn’t think Bhullar would be able to play against NBA players. Therefore, his contract was terminated before he had a chance to ever play in an NBA game.
Satnam Singh
Satnam Singh followed Bhullar’s way and he became the very first Indian basketball player to be drafted by an NBA team. He was drafted by Dallas Mavericks in 2015 NBA Draft. However, Singh was also not given a chance to play at the NBA by his team. After parting his way with the Mavericks, he played for Texas Legends, a G-League team. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a long career in G-League either. He played only for two seasons and he averaged as low as 1.5 ppg and 1.5 rpg.
Amjyot Singh & Palpreet Singh
No NBA team drafted Amjyot Singh in 2014 but he was signed by Oklahoma City Blue, Thunder’s G-League associate for the 2017-2018 season. Having played 30 games in that season, his contract was extended for another year. On the other hand, Palpreet Singh’s NBA journey didn’t go as planned. He hasn’t played an NBA or a G-League game yet. However, 6-foot-9 forward was drafted to a Developmental League team in 2016.
Sim Bhullar, the first player to play in an NBA game, currently plays for Guangxi Rhino, a second division team in China. Although he is an Indian descent, he played for Canada in 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Satnam Singh also lives in Canada at the moment. He signed contract with St. John’s Edge in 2018 and he continues to play basketball in the National Basketball League of Canada. On the other hand, Amjyot Singh is currently playing in the G-League for Wisconsin Herd. Last but not least, Palpreet Singh is a member of Long Island Nets’ roster.
